Skinny jeans are definitely a great staple to have, but sometimes it’s nice to break out of the everyday look and try something new. Especially when it comes to something as basic as your denim! Here are 5 denim styles to try that aren’t your go-to skinny jeans!

5 Denim Styles to try that Aren’t Skinny Jeans

1. Mom jeans
Love it or hate it, everyone knows that fashion is a fickle thing and what was once grotesque is now suddenly cool (Project Runway said it best: One day you’re in, and the next day you’re out). Mom jeans are great for when you’re feeling those vintage vibes.

2. Dad jeans
Can’t mention mom jeans without bringing up its equal counterpart hehe. While mom jeans are more high waisted and usually straight legged, dad jeans are light washed, low waisted, and baggy. Just think of what type of jeans your dad would wear and you nailed it.

3. Boyfriend jeans
Boyfriend jeans are fitted on the waist, but pretty loose and comfy everywhere else with a wider leg opening than skinny jeans. These are a great staple because they can be worn with sneakers and a baseball tee for that comfy look, or worn with heels and a fancy top for an unexpected outfit mix.

4. High waisted cropped flared jeans
A unique, vintage throwback. Might as well just lean into the whole vintage look with this outfit. Related: 4 Fresh Ways to Wear Your Jeans

5. Cropped straight leg jeans
A lot of styles mixed into this pair. A little bit of a flare, a little bit of a crop, and a little bit of a high waist. They’re an old classic.

I’ll never abandon my good ol’ skinnies, but I like giving them a break every once in a while to try something new. Even if it’s a little out of your comfort zone you never know what you might end up loving!
