Can you believe that tomorrow is already the first day of September? That just means we’re one step closer to fall! Fall could easily be my favorite season. I just have to pretend that winter doesn’t come right after it though and take in every pumpkin spice latte that I can (did you get any yet or is it too soon?). A new season usually means switching out your wardrobe and getting it ready for the temperature change. Here are the staples you need to prep your wardrobe for fall and hit the ground (stylishly) running!

Staples You Need to Prep Your Wardrobe for Fall

The best start to any wardrobe prep is to clean out your closet and pack away what you won’t be wearing anymore (some of your summer stuff can still work though, so check this post out!).

Next, do a wardrobe inventory to see if you have these items that I believe you’ll wear over and over again this season!

To prep your wardrobe for fall see if you have a…

1. Green cargo/ anorak jacket
Even though everyone has this type of jacket you can’t not have it. Most frequently worn with stripes or leopard print, it’s a great layering piece for pretty much anything!

2. Striped top
Not necessarily fall specific, but this is a great piece for fall because it complements the season’s prints and colors so well.

3. Dark blue and/or black skinny jeans
The foundation to any outfit you’re going to make. This is the time to break out the darker pant colors.

4. Slides
This is the great in-between shoe when it’s too cold for sandals but too hot for boots. They’re more of a classic style that adds sophistication to your look.

5. Sweater

It’s not fall without a sweater. A cozy one in a neutral color will prove to be the most valuable.

6. Booties
These are the go-to fall shoe that you’ll probably find yourself wearing all the time. There are so many different kinds of styles so knock yourself out. I think every season should have a “wow” piece and this would be an easy way to accomplish that! Think leopard booties, bright red, etc. All of those make a statement.

7. Suede and/or moto jacket
You’re probably going to need a great classic outerwear piece that’s a little heavier than an anorak jacket. Your suede or moto jacket will be your go-to and go with anything!

8. Leggings
Whether you have leggings to be worn with longer sweaters or more of a pant-type of legging to be worn with shorter tops, your wardrobe isn’t really complete without it! Leather is always fun too 😉 Related: 10 Ways to Wear Black Leggings

9. Something leopard
Great print for any season, but it especially proves its versatility in fall. Goes great with anything striped (#2) or a green jacket (#1). And of course, chunky cardigans. Perfect for transitioning and adding coziness.

Not pictured: camo. Some would consider it a staple and some wouldn’t. I wasn’t always the biggest fan but I’m going to try it out this year.

What do you think? Did I miss any other ones?
