New year, new clothes! Well, not exactly. If you, like me, embrace a capsule wardrobe and choose to invest in quality over quantity, then a new year doesn’t necessarily mean a whole new closet. However, it can mean new looks! Because I firmly believe that a capsule wardrobe does not equal boring. With a little creativity (and okay, maybe a few new clothes and accessories), you can continue creating outfits that feel fresh and exciting.
My style has been a bit all over the place lately – as you’ll see in this post – but that’s the beauty of personal style, right? If you want to wear joggers and call it a day, do it. If you want to dress like you just stepped off the streets of Paris, do it. I’m here to help you embrace your personal style and make the most of your wardrobe basics. Let’s make 2026 a great (stylish) year!
1. white button up + black jeans + striped neck scarf + leopard print ankle boots
A secret to great style? Knowing your go-to outfit combinations. Whether it’s an outfit formula (blazer + white T-shirt + jeans) or a favorite mix of colors or prints, a stylish outfit is built on effortless pairings. One combination you’ll find me wearing often? Leopard print with black-and-white stripes. Not only is it a foolproof match, but it also offers plenty of ways to mix things up.
For this look, I stuck to the classics: jeans paired with a white button-up. The leopard-print ankle boots and striped scarf add just the right amount of pizzazz to these wardrobe staples – perfect for a fun, office-ready look!
2. sweater dress + knee-high boots + fleece-lined tights
On days when I want to feel cozy yet elevated, I always reach for a loose sweater dress. While outfits often look extra stylish with around four pieces, a sweater dress is one of those rare one-and-done options. This time of year, I find a shorter dress most flattering when paired with taller boots—and knee-high boots truly are a wardrobe staple (for most climates!).
For colder climates like my Midwest one, finish the look with fleece-lined tights. They give the illusion of sheer tights while adding an extra layer of warmth.
3. black pants + white tee + v-neck sweater + wool coat + sneakers
Why this photo looks like I’m underwater or was shot on a foggy day, I have no idea. But look past the haze to one of my new favorite casual-chic outfit formulas.
Start with black pants. This pair is a go-to favorite because they look polished enough for the office yet feel loose and comfortable – so much so that they’re my top choice for running errands and flying on an airplane (I kid you not!). They don’t restrict my waist, and they instantly make me feel put together.
On top, the layers of a white tee and a cashmere sweater strike the perfect balance between casual and elevated. A long wool coat – especially in a neutral color – adds a luxe finishing touch. Complete the outfit with minimalist sneakers for the ultimate casual-chic look.

4. red cardigan + jeans + ankle boots + neck scarf
For a New Year coffee date, I opted for my favorite pop of color to lift my spirits, along with a Parisian-chic vibe to match the stylish cafe in town.
Another one of my go-to outfit combinations? Pairing red with leopard print. There are so many ways to style this duo, and it always looks good. I like to balance the bold statement with neutral tones and classic wardrobe staples so the standout pieces can truly shine.
5. black pants + white tee + burgundy cardigan + camel coat + leopard print sneakers
Is red a little too bold for you… or maybe just not your color? That’s where burgundy comes in. Softer, more subdued, and a bit more elegant, this shade is perfect for bringing life to neutral outfits (with a touch of class!).
Even better, burgundy pairs beautifully with leopard print, so no matter what your January climate looks like, it’s a luxe color worth incorporating into your wardrobe.

6. joggers + white tee + oversized blazer + socks + loafers + baseball cap + tote bag
If you’ve been following along with these outfit posts or on LTK, then you know I’ve been finding many ways to wear these joggers. What can I say? If I buy something, I want to make my money count! That’s exactly why I’ve built this site around wardrobe staples and versatile pieces. I hate the feeling of buying something – whether it was an impulse purchase or influencer-inspired – and never wearing it again. Now, that’s not to say I don’t make influenced purchases (we all do!), but I want them to be pieces I can actually get good use out of.
I first saw a jogger outfit on Pinterest and thought joggers would be a great addition to my wardrobe. From school drop-offs to working from home, I have plenty of occasions for casual outfits, but I definitely experience a bit of leggings fatigue. To my pleasant surprise, joggers can absolutely be dressed up! My go-to formula for a casual-chic look is pairing them with an oversized blazer, loafers, socks, and a sleek tote bag.

7. jeans + cableknit sweater + boat shoes + barn coat
Jeans and a sweater are a great foundation for a casual look, but if you want to add a touch of chic, a beautiful coat is the best way to do it! It instantly elevates your outfit while letting your simple pieces shine.
For a casual shopping day (like when I wore this outfit), I’m a big fan of this Longchamp cosmetic “mini” bag with a strap from Amazon. It’s like your go-to belt bag – but elevated.
New Year, New Casual Chic Outfits
Though I’ll admit I’m ready to start styling spring looks, it’s just not the time yet. In my opinion, the next best thing is casual-chic outfits – because if you have to dress for winter, you might as well do it with a little chic.
