Looking put together without putting in a lot of effort is the dream of every fashionista, right? Well, what might surprise you is that those dreams can be made a reality! Creating a polished look can often be achieved with just a couple of clever styling hacks. These easy tips and tricks on how to look put together are all it takes to trick someone (and yourself) into thinking that you’ve got it all together. Even on the days when you feel like you so don’t. Without further ado, here are some of the easiest ways and tips to look together.
1. Tuck in your top
Possibly the easiest way to look put together is to simply tuck in your top. A put-together look is often streamlined and flattering, and this trick will give you both.
Another great way to get this style with ease is by picking up a bodysuit. This piece allows you to get the perfect tuck and will add a little bit of sleekness to everything from dress pants to a casual pair of jeans.
2. Know what looks good on your body type
Even if you have all of the finest clothes in the world, silhouettes that aren’t flattering to your body type will just look “off”. Looking put together is all about showing off the best version of yourself, so always take your body shape into account.
Do you have a small waistline? Go for high-waisted items that will accentuate your figure. Do you have broad shoulders? Try to create volume on your lower half to balance your proportions. It will make a world of difference!
3. Throw on pointed-toe shoes
While rounded-toe pumps usually read “feminine and sweet”, pointed-toe shoes are perfect for those looking to take their look to the next level of sophistication. Pointed-toe flats are also a good choice, but a pair of heels will always make a huge difference in your look (without much effort on your part!).
This silhouette will also elongate your figure (and who doesn’t want that look of mile-long supermodel legs?). Grab this stylish pair of shoes in neutral colors like nude and black for the most outfit combination possibilities.
4. Quality over quantity
One common misconception about stylish women is that they must have a closet that rivals a department store, stuffed with all of the latest trends. More often than not, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. While many stylish celebrities do have an abundance of clothes, the everyday stylish woman knows that quality is always better than quantity.
These high-quality basics may be more expensive, but they will last way longer, and luxe fabrics like wool and silk will instantly add a luxe vibe to your look. If you’re not sure where to begin when it comes to buying these investment pieces, you can always try the popular capsule wardrobe method. This method is often used by the French, and if anyone knows a thing or two about looking put-together, it’s them!
5. Add a structured blazer
One of my favorite ways to instantly pull together a look is to add a structured blazer. Even when thrown on with a basic tee and jeans, this piece is one of those closet staples that will instantly elevate even the most simple look.
Go for either an oversized blazer or a more tailored option, but always make sure it fits your body to a tee. If not, a good tailor is always an option. Ill-fitting clothes can quickly ruin your entire look, no matter how chic and put-together it is.
6. Develop a quick, easy, and chic beauty routine
In order to ensure you always look your best when leaving the house, finding a quick go-to hair and beauty routine will be a lifesaver. One stylish look that doesn’t require hours in the mirror is a low bun and a swipe of lipstick, mascara, and concealer. Pulled-back hair is a great way to give yourself that “professional” look, and it works for all hair types.
In addition, lipstick, mascara, and concealer are the ultimate trifecta for highlighting your features without overwhelming your look. “Less is more” doesn’t just apply to your wardrobe, but to your makeup as well!

7. Accessorize with sunglasses or some tasteful jewelry
When it comes to looking chic and pulled together, a pair of oversized glasses will quickly become your best friend. This simple accessory can hide tired eyes and provide you with that alluring air of mystery that stylish women pull off so well.
In addition, tasteful jewelry will always add the perfect finishing touch to a chic look. You can even go for a pair of eye-catching earrings or a statement necklace, but make sure to keep the rest of your accessories to a minimum.
8. Find your “signature”
When we look at some of the style legends from the past, they often have a trademark that they’re known for: Audrey Hepburn with her red lipstick and little black dress; Jane Birkin and her laid-back jeans and t-shirt combo; Bridget Bardot and her voluminous blonde locks.
This may be one of the trickier style tips to implement since it takes a bit of exploring, but finding your signature style and look will instantly set you apart from the crowd and make it easier to create pulled-together looks that represent you.

9. Don’t neglect your undergarments
Good fashion starts from the ground up! In this case, it all starts with your undergarments. Comfortable, well-fitting undergarments are key to feeling confident in the clothes you wear over them. Plus, you want to be careful of what might be showing through your clothes. Bright-colored underwear and thick bra straps, for example, might be cheapening the overall look of your outfit. And no one wants that!
Before leaving the house, make sure that you look in the mirror (from the front and behind) to ensure you’re not suffering from an avoidable fashion faux pas. And when it comes to choosing your undergarments in the first place, shades that match your skin tone are always a safe bet. Also, think about investing in a variety of styles to fit the cut of different styles of clothes. Think of a strapless bra for an off-the-shoulder top, a racerback version, high-cut underwear, seamless styles, etc.

10. Try a Tonal Look
Tonal looks are an effortless way to instantly elevate your look and appear more put together. Even though reaching for pieces all in the same shade might seem too easy, it makes it look like you put more thought into getting dressed than you actually did. Win, win!
The benefit of a tonal look is that it can also help you appear slimmer. It creates a clean line in your look from top to bottom, drawing the eye up and down rather than side to side. So not only will you look more elegant, you’ll also appear taller and more slender. What’s not to love about tonal looks?
11. Balance Your Proportions
Try balancing out your proportions with a little help from your wardrobe. For a put-together look, avoid going all in on an oversized look, or all slim-fitting pieces. Balance is the trick here! If you’re wearing an oversized sweater, reach for leggings or a pair of slim-fit jeans on the bottom.
On the flip side, if you want to wear a tighter-fitting top, try pairing it with wide-leg jeans or a looser maxi skirt. This little trick doesn’t cost anything but does ensure that you appear balanced and put together.
Looking Put Together Doesn’t Have to Be Hard
Looking put together whenever you leave the house doesn’t have to be hard – or expensive. Little tweaks to the way that you get dressed each morning can make a world of difference when it comes to elevating how you look and feel. It’s all in the details! When you start paying attention to the little things, you’ll find that it makes your overall style feel much more put together – and you’ll get a confidence boost as a bonus.

that one with the bra on the outside was tasteless!!!!!!!!
It’s actually a cropped top, not a bra. But that’s okay if the style isn’t for you 🙂
I loved it the cropped top was the unexpected.
Thanks, Mary!
It’s true that a blazer elevates your look. I love ripped jeans, tees, turtlenecks, and flats, which is my go to uniform look. A gorgeous well tailored blazer, a chic pair of earrings or necklace, and a bit of make up always makes me feel well put to together.
Why say anything at all? It is possible to see something you don’t like and just quietly move on without being rude. The world wasn’t dying to know what you thought, Marlene.
that one with the bra on the outside was tasteless!!!!!!!! No I did not already say that. Apparently you don’t want anyone to see what I said. Does the truth hurt?

Marlene, your “truth” is simply your opinion. Does not make you right.
