The outdated rules of not being able to wear white after Labor Day are long gone. White jeans deserve a place in your year-round wardrobe but we don’t blame you if you’re struggling with how to style these lighter-hued pants! You already know that white jeans work perfectly for your summer outfits, but they don’t have to get packed away once the temperature starts to dip and the leaves start to fall. White jeans can fit seamlessly into your everyday wear for all seasons and be a versatile, timeless piece. Here’s how to wear white jeans in the fall!
Style tips to keep in mind
- Pay attention to the fit
You don’t want your pants to be too baggy or slouchy. Whether you choose straight leg, skinny leg, or even bootleg, try to keep your white denim jeans generally well-fitted where they’re meant to be.
- Check the material
First thing you have to do to avoid any embarassing mishaps- check out your behind in different kinds of lighting and in different colors of underwear. You’ve got to know what you’re working with and you certainly don’t want to find out later that your underwear shows through! I think visible pocket lining should be avoided as well.
On the topic of material, consider getting a pair of bottoms with a little less stretch. White pants are generally not as slimming as darker bottoms, and you may feel more confident in something that has a little more suction. Spanx makes white jeans and though I haven’t tried them, I do like their leggings. You can check them out here.
- Keep it simple
Though wearing white pants and white jeans past summer may seem more of a recent and trendy thing, still think of this clothing item as a classic. Opt for simple and clean lines and no rips. I prefer a high waist and skinny leg, but at the end of the day, get the pair that make you feel confident, whether that’s a mid-rise or a wide leg. Just make sure to keep it simple!
How to wear white jeans in the fall
Whether it’s a denim jacket, blazer, trench coat, or cardigan, adding a layer is a great way to instantly make it work for the colder months. Leather jackets are a great option too. Not only do they add a slight edge to your outfit, but they’re a perfect companion for fall.
- Pair with a sweater
Cashmere sweater, oversized sweater, or chunky knit, you can’t go wrong. The easiest way to make your white jeans look great in fall is to pair them with a warm and cozy sweater.
- Style with fall colors
White pairs well with any color (yay neutrals!), but to make your white jeans outfit look great for fall, style this look with rich fall colors like purple, orange, green, and red. If going over to that side of the color wheel is not your thing, then style your pair of white jeans with a black top. Darker colors and darker tops match the cooler season and you can always accentuate with warm neutrals (like beige) to “warm” it up a bit.
- Add animal print
Animal print, specifically leopard print, always gets a resurgence of popularity come fall. Pair your white jeans (or white trousers) with a touch of animal print for a stylish fall look!
- Throw on a stylish coat
Want to make something look cold-weather appropriate? Easy, just add a fabulous coat! A camel coat is always a good idea, but black, navy, and dark grey are great options too.
- Finish off your look with a scarf
You don’t have to wear a scarf with every outfit, but when you do, it’s a great way to not only look chic but make your white jeans look weather-appropriate for fall.
- Choose closed-toed shoes
Though you might wear your white bottoms with strappy sandals in the summer, that’s a no-go come fall. Closed-toed shoes, especially ankle boots and loafers, are great go-to options.
When you use these style tips you’ll find that you can create more fall-appropriate outfits than you think! However, here are a few ideas to get you started:
- white jeans, chambray shirt, brown boots
- white jeans, grey sweater, blazer, flats, scarf
- white jeans, slouchy sweater, ankle boots
Where can you wear white jeans in the fall?
Short answer: wherever you want! But if you’re looking for ideas, you can wear white jeans to the last days of farmer’s market, to work, to Starbucks to get your pumpkin spice latte, and yes, even to the pumpkin patch or apple orchard. Just pair with plenty of other fall pieces such as a cozy sweater, ankle boots, a scarf, and maybe even a hat!
How to wear white jeans in winter
And since we’ll be transitioning into winter soon, here are some style ideas on how to wear white jeans in the winter!
An all-white look or cream color scheme is a stylish woman’s favorite way to wear white. These “winter whites” will never go out of style and will always look elevated and chic this time of year. Winter isn’t the best time for bright colors (though you do you), so try to keep your color palette on the muted side this time of year.
Maybe in the fall you could get away with loafers and ballet flats, but not in winter! Ankle boots or knee-high boots are your best options.
The other fall style tips stay the same- wear a cozy sweater, layer, and add a scarf and you’ll look fabulous!
