What do you imagine when you hear the words “French style?” These words often conjure up images of stylish French women sweeping through the streets of Paris in their long trench coats, cashmere sweaters, and leather boots. But this classic, sophisticated style can be easily transitioned into your summer wardrobe as well! By using a few styling tricks, utilizing classic wardrobe basics, and gathering inspiration from French girls, you’ll find that you can dress just as luxuriously during those hotter days. Here are 6 of my favorite Parisian-inspired summer looks to get you started.

6 Parisian Inspired Summer Looks

1. polka dot dress + basket bag + slides

Our first outfit is one that’s effortlessly chic, which is Parisian style through and through. Polka dots are always going to be a charming and feminine choice for adding interest to your look. Better yet, they will never go out of style and can be worn year-round! A fun and flirty polka dot dress is perfect for the summer season and looks tres chic when paired with a basket bag and slide sandals.

I’m a huge fan of this mini-dress version. The off-shoulder tie details add a fun twist to an otherwise simple silhouette and are a great way to show off the shoulders and decolletage tastefully.

2. striped tee + skinny jeans + espadrille wedges

Let’s face it – if you want to keep a French woman from her favorite jeans, you’ll have to pry them from her perfectly manicured fingers. While they may not be a popular choice for those particularly hot days, jeans can absolutely work for warm weather! The key is to pair your jeans with a comfortable and breathable top and shoes.

This relaxed-fit striped tee is an easy breathable option for a hot day. You also can’t go wrong by adding a pair of chic cat-eye sunglasses. These are the perfect accessory for taking your summer fashion up a notch and giving off a glam old-Hollywood vibe.

3. cami + skirt + sandals + basket bag

As I’ve talked about before, a great French wardrobe is all about utilizing basic pieces and getting the most out of your wardrobe. That’s why this outfit is such a go-to for the summer! This look combines a basic cami, midi skirt, and sandals into a look that’s perfect for cooling off in the heat.

Many of my favorite Parisian women count on skirts to get them through the summer, and a great mid-length skirt is one of those wardrobe staples that can be used endlessly. Pair this piece with high heels or strappy heeled sandals for more formal occasions, or with flat sandals for a casual look.

4. gingham skirt + white button down + espadrille wedges

We see no shortage of stylish straw bags when summer rolls around, but I especially love the versatility and functionality of a straw tote like this one. Its size and open shape make it perfect for everything from trips to the farmer’s market to lazy days on the beach.

Also, never underestimate the power of a white button-down when it comes to French fashion! It’s one of those classic pieces that you’ll always reach for in a pinch. Try to go for one in a breathable material like cotton or linen for hot summer days. I love pairing both of these warm-weather staples with a patterned midi skirt. Gingham is a pattern that always screams “summer” to me!

5. printed dress + espadrille wedges + basket bag

A lovely printed dress is always a staple for the Parisian summer. While neutral colors will always be a great option, a floral dress is a great way to inject some bright colors into your summer wardrobe. I love this chic button-down style, but wrap dresses are also a great choice, as they work well with every body type.

And, as you know by now, you’ll have a hard time going wrong with a classic pair of espadrilles and a chic basket bag! For the perfect pair of espadrilles, consider checking out the brand Castañer. With the help of Yves Saint Laurent, this brand is known for popularizing the wedge espadrille style. How’s that for a testament of French style and quality?

6. polka dot dress + straw hat + espadrille wedges

Once again, polka dots are always a good idea for a Parisian chic style! When finding the perfect dress for a hot day, be sure to go for light and airy fabrics and silhouettes that will give you that perfect summer feel. Also, detailed and voluminous sleeves are still on trend for this summer!

Little details like puff or flutter sleeves will go a long way in pulling together the perfect chic look. In addition to a great pair of retro-inspired sunglasses, a straw boater hat is an easy-to-wear summer essential. This accessory is easy to throw on and gives your outfit the perfect laid-back, European-inspired vibe, while also protecting your skin from the harsh rays.

And there you have it! These are some of my favorite outfit combos for pulling off a French girl style, even in the heat of the summer. Just like with all things related to French style, it’s all about making the most of the great, high-quality basics you have in your wardrobe.

By picking up a few of these versatile basic pieces (such as espadrilles, a midi skirt, and chic sunglasses), you’ll be able to create countless outfits that are effortless and summer weather-appropriate, while still seeming right off the streets of Paris. Be sure to shop the similar items under each outfit idea for some great pieces to add to your own wardrobe!
