Whether you’ve been working from home since before it became popular (6+ years for me!), or you joined the 26% of employees that started working remotely since 2020, one thing is certain: working remotely is here to stay and only expected to increase. Though working from home comes with its own set of benefits and challenges, one unexpected challenge is learning to dress for the occasion.

And though wearing pajamas all day might have been fun for the first two weeks, people realized that how you dress does in fact affect your self-esteem and job performance. It didn’t take long for loungewear to trend! But if you don’t want to be resigned to a matching sweat suit for the rest of your life, rest assured, you have options. Want to know what they are? Keep reading for 7 work-from-home outfits that are as comfortable as they are stylish.

1. Matching Sweater With Drawstring Elastic Waist Pants

left set (love this set!)
right set (very cute and comfortable, though the black shows everything)

When you want to take a break from leggings, slip on a pair of elastic waist pants. Comfort is a given, but the added bonus of these outfits is a matching sweater. Not only is this more elevated than a hoodie or a graphic t-shirt, but it’s just as comfortable.

The best thing about these looks is that they can easily be worn outside of the house as well. Swap the slippers for sneakers, ankle boots, or even loafers for a casual chic look!

2. High-Waisted Pull-On Dress Pants

sweater | pants (affordable work-from-home must have!)

When you want to add a little bit of class to your outfit, skip the drawstring pants and instead, choose a pair that look like flowy dress pants. These pants usually come in a sophisticated color with a crease or piping detail that set them apart.

They feel office-worthy, yet won’t feel restricting as you sit in your office chair doing Zoom calls or responding to emails. To keep the classy vibes going, pair this style of pants with a sophisticated sweater.

Want to leave the house? Slip on a pair of ballet flats.

3. Romper

romper (considering sizing up, the crotch can be a little wonky)

For the warmer months, a romper can be a fun piece to wear. After all, isn’t it everyone’s goal to not put on real pants? What’s even better about this style is that you can slip on a pair of strappy sandals and head out the door for an impromptu lunch date.

4. Matching Lounge Set

left set (cute and comfortable, but it did shrink a little in the wash)
right set (very comfortable! Keep in mind fit is slightly off- arms are a little long and pants are a little short)

There’s a reason the matching lounge set is just so popular. Simply put, it works! The coordinating aspect of this look instantly creates a pulled-together outfit. Which is a must-have when you want to feel stylish at home.

5. Plisse Set

set (it’s thin, but a winner!)

Plisse is fabric treated to give it a crinkled or puckered look. The end result is a matching set that looks more elevated and interesting than a lounge set (though nothing is wrong with those!).

The outfits are stylish and comfortable for wearing around the house, but can easily be dressed up for shopping or a coffee date. You may also find this type of look under the words “crinkle” or “pleated”.

6. Matching Skirt and Sweater Set

Though a skirt may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of work-from-home outfits, it certainly shouldn’t be overlooked! A coordinating skirt and sweater set strike the perfect balance of style and comfort.

Need to head out the door? Slip on a pair of knee-high boots for a preppy chic look.

7. Sweater Dress

right (it’s a little see-through)

Though a sweater dress sounds fancy, it’s one of the best things to wear when working from home. Why? Well, the comfy sweater ribbed material is irresistible and the silhouette is classy and timeless, striking the perfect balance of stylish and comfortable!

And if you end up needing to pop into the office real quick, with a simple shoe change, you are ready to go.
