Every season we talk about the wardrobe staples, not because they change, but because we all need the reminder! In a world that’s focused on constantly throwing out your wardrobe to accommodate the latest trend, I would much rather build a wardrobe that doesn’t need throwing out (with a few trends sprinkled in). And a style that does this well? Parisian chic style. As you look to refresh your mind (and your fall wardrobe) this season, let’s get inspired by the key staples French girls are loving and rewearing year after year.

1. Trench Coat

There’s just something so classic about a trench coat. Though there are many different styles these days (animal print, cropped, and so forth), I recommend making sure you have a classic midi to maxi length trench in a beige or tan color first. This will be the perfect topper to so many outfits, making even jeans and a white T-shirt look chic. Need more ideas? You can even pair it over a casual matching sweater and elastic-waist pants outfit for elevated travel attire!

2. High-Quality Sweaters

From cardigans to turtlenecks to crewnecks, there are so many different sweater styles you could have in your wardrobe – and each is equally important! The most important thing, however, is to prioritize quality over quantity. A high-quality sweater will not only feel better but look better too, making even your simple denim look elevated. (And ensuring you get your money’s worth!)

3. Loafers

The right loafer will instantly add a timeless look to your outfit. Though leather is stiff at first, I find leather loafers to be some of the best, as faux leather can peel, downgrading your look. Of course, the idea is to buy the best you can afford. (And we won’t feel bad about whatever that is.) For styling ideas, you can pair your loafers with socks and skirts, jeans, and even dresses – giving so many of your fall outfits a classic touch.

4. Ankle Boots

Ankle boots and jeans make for one of the best fall outfit combos – and a combo you rarely see a French girl without. Once again, high-quality leather that can mold to your feet is ideal here. I prefer black as a classic fall color, but burgundy and chocolate brown can be a fun fall addition too!

5. Blazer

A slightly oversized, boxy blazer is perfect for giving that effortless Parisian street-style look. I never run out of ways to wear mine – from over T-shirts to over cardigans, sweaters, and even dresses. The options truly are endless, adding that perfect cool-girl (who means business) touch. Once the basics are covered (black or navy blue), consider an autumn print!

6. Dark Wash Denim

Darker-wash denim is a great wash to pull out for the cooler seasons. Not only is it great for fall, but winter and early spring too. And as a bonus, it’s slimming! It adds a great foundation to all your fall outfits, and if you get a slightly flared bottom, they pair well with ankle boots too. On top, once again, you can pair virtually anything with them (the beauty of staples). Try a T-shirt, button-up, sweater, cardigan, or turtleneck, for starters.
