I had too much fun imagining Audrey Hepburn’s summer outfits styled for today, that I had to bring her outfit inspo back – this time for early fall outfits! Early fall may look a little different for everyone – some crisp and cool, some still hot and humid – but one thing that can look the same? Outfits that look chic, classic, and timeless (Ã la Audrey Hepburn) no matter what.
1. short sleeve cable knit sweater polo + shorts + lace up flats
shoes | sweater | sunglasses | scarf | shorts
Audrey Hepburn loved a pair of statement sunnies! From round and oversized to vintage cat eye, most of her outfits weren’t complete until she donned a beautiful pair. This outfit, which feels a little vintage thanks to the lace-up flats, pairs well with these round, oversized sunglasses. The short-sleeve cable knit sweater is a great way to introduce some fall texture (without going the full long-sleeve sweater yet), and a pair of tailored shorts keep the outfit cool yet classic.
2. short barn coat + pixie pants + flats
sunglasses | flats | pants | jacket | bag
Audrey was frequently photographer wearing a pair of fitted, pixie pants – and it’s not surprise as to why! They’re so versatile; you could style them for work or play. Plus the slim fit can be very flattering. The ballet flat, top handle bag, and oval sunglasses all speak to Audrey’s style, and the short barn jacket brings in a touch of fall, in a very vintage way.
3. gingham blazer + gingham pants + loafers
blazer | pants | shoes | bag | sunglasses
Another thing Audrey was seen wearing besides pixie pants? Matching sets, gingham, and blazers. Okay, that was more than one thing! But this outfit embodies so many styles she was known for. To add a fall touch and not have it look too spring or summery, pair it with black accents to ground it for the upcoming autumnal season.
4. striped cardigan + striped skirt + flats
skirt | flats | cardigan | bag | sunglasses
Many people think Audrey Hepburn was French (I did too at one point), and though she had a connection to France, she was technically British. But that didn’t stop her from dressing Parisian chic and working with French designers like Givenchy. The result? A powerhouse woman who can fit it anywhere and do anything! This black and white striped skirt and cardigan combo seems very Audrey, especially with the pencil bag. Leopard print Mary Jane flats add a modern touch.

5. car coat + slip dress + loafers
dress | bag | coat | socks | sunglasses | shoes
A car coat is similar to a trench coat, with a car coat being shorter and designed as more of a minimalist jacket (though I think it looks a little more vintage too). I love the juxtapostion of the simple coat with the beautiufl slip dress, making this dress feel like something you can wear for your day to day. Plus, a sleeveless dress is great when it’s still hot out. Bring in fall touches with loafers and socks.
6. mini skirt + polo + car coat + loafers
coat | shirt | skirt | bag | loafer | socks
I love this outfit because it balances early fall, preppy fashion, and Audrey Hepburn style so well. The base of a mini (but wear whatever you’re comfortable with) skirt and sleeveless polo shirt create a foundation that still takes into account that early fall isn’t always crisp and cool. But if yours is, a plaid car coat adds warmth – and fall style! A loafer and sock combo bring in some preppy fashion, and the round sunglasses and top handle bag speak to Audrey’s looks.
7. white button up + skirt/skort + pumps + lady jacket cardigan
skort | button up | pumps | jacket | headband | bag
It’s giving preppy girl in the city… love! While there might not be fall colors of patterns in this look, the fall essense comes through in the style. And we all know that Audrey loved a classy jacket too! Embrace the city chic vibes with a lady jacket cardigan, cap toe pumps (very Chanelesque), and a classic bag.
