Sure, technically you can wear whatever color you want whenever you want, but there’s something about saving certain colors for specific seasons! In the spring, I love to embrace pink. In the summer, red. And in the fall and winter, I like to incorporate deeper, moodier colors like olive, burgundy, and chocolate brown. A simple color swap can make your wardrobe feel new, and who doesn’t love the cozy vibes that these colors bring? For fall outfit ideas using autumn colors, read on for part 1… and stay tuned for part 2!

1. Forest Green + Black

Not every fall outfit has to be head to toe in fall colors. Perhaps you like to incorporate little touches. If that’s you, this outfit is a great example of that! By keeping your base outfit your classic black and white (which I never stop wearing, no matter the season), you can easily incorporate forest green. This pairs well with black and white, and by matching your shoes and bag, you add a coordinated touch.

2. Chocolate Brown + Black

This outfit built around a breezy lightweight cotton skirt is great for early fall outfits, transitional fall outfits, or warm fall outfits! To make it better suited for autumn instead of summer, lean into the darker tones. Brown and black add a sophisticated touch, and gold accents add a luxe finish.

3. Eggplant + Olive Green

For a casual day-to-day outfit, or a trendy “exploring NYC in the fall” outfit, save this look. The barrel jeans are on the trendy side, but you can swap out the denim for whatever you’re comfortable with. I love using capsule wardrobe pieces to create a simple base. Case in point: This jeans and white tee outfit. An olive green trench coat adds the perfect fall color, as well as an extra layer. A beautiful, rich color such as eggplant (or plum, wine, burgundy – whatever you call it) adds a gorgeous finish.

4. Hunter Green + Brown + Black

If you spend your days in the office, copy this fall office outfit! A pair of tailored pants in a stand-out autumn color creates a stand-out piece to build your outfit around. A white button-up keeps it looking professional, and black accents like your belt and bag keep it looking sophisticated. Leopard print shoes add a little personality!

5. Wine + Espresso Brown

If you love to wear jeans, good news: Creating fall outfits is easy! A few thoughtful swaps – like switching out your black cardigan for a wine colored one, and switching out your shoes for ones in an espresso brown color – are all it takes to subtly incorporate autumnal tones.

6. Black + Tan

If you love to wear black (me!), then I have more good news. You can easily transition your black colored outfits into fall ones by adding a suede texture. To lighten up the black outfit, choose a light/tan suede color to add a nice contrast.

7. Brown + Wine Red

Taking inspiration from Parisian fashion, this is an outfit that will make you want to go to Paris in the fall! Jeans are a great base for year-round outfits, and for autumn, pair them with a leopard print cardigan for extra style. The trench coat is a classic, chic finish. And for your autumn (and stylish) touch, add a pop of color with dark red shoes!

8. Brown + Black

I have memories of going to England in the late summer on my mind, and one thing I couldn’t stop thinking about when I was there was how beautiful it would be to go back in fall! (Plus, I want to style fall equestrian-inspired outfits, obviously.) An autumn outfit doesn’t have to have a bright color to feel like fall. Dark brown and black also work!
