If you like the way your nails look painted but don’t do it often because nail polish just sucks the life out of your nails, then you may be looking for a better alternative. I was, and that led me to Dr.’s Remedy products, a high-quality nail polish that supposedly improves the health of your nails as you wear it. Many women say it’s the only brand of nail polish that they’ll ever use and that it dramatically improved the quality of their nails. Is it really as good as they say? I decided to find out and if you’re curious too, join me in this Dr. Remedy nail polish review!

About Dr.’s Remedy

It’s not every day that you can say your doctor created your nail polish. Started by Dr. Adam Cirlincione and Dr. William Spielfogel, these doctors and family men set out to create a clean and safe lacquer that women could use, especially pregnant women, without having to worry about harsh toxins. More than just that, however, they wanted Dr.’s remedy products to actually address real concerns and therapeutically support your nails without sacrificing a beautiful color.

Ingredients

Dr.’s Remedy nail care is not your average nail polish brand. While most brands focus on just color and lasting power, this line of doctor-inspired cosmetics thinks about the ingredients you are putting on your body and works to formulate products to give you optimal nail health.

These products are enriched with natural ingredients such as tea tree oil, wheat protein, vitamin c, vitamin e, essential oils, and garlic bulb extract. They use organic ingredients to promote stronger nails. Not only that, but these antifungal ingredients could potentially help with a fungal infection and improve any brittle nails on both your finger and toe nails.

If you’re looking into a natural brand then you probably already know that most traditional nail polishes on the shelf at your local drugstore have toxic chemicals in them. These products are not FDA approved, but they are free from harsh ingredients like formaldehyde resin. Did you know that formaldehyde is what’s believed to make nails yellow and weak?

They can’t claim to cure any health issues, but with other active ingredients such as biotin, lavender, and wheat protein, these products are an effective treatment for nail fungus, brittle nails, and discolored nail beds.

My thoughts- Dr. Remedy Nail Polish Review

I don’t paint my nails very often because, for some reason, my nails are usually pretty brittle and always look yellow after removing polish. So though I like to have some color, I typically avoid it because my nails end up looking worse. I saw this better-for-you alternative on Amazon and decided to give it a go.

My first impression was that this product did not smell as strong as other polishes, which is a pro because my husband always leaves the room when I paint my nails. He especially hates it when I paint them in the car on the rare occasion that I do because there’s nowhere to go haha. It still has the nail polish smell so don’t expect it to be gone by any means, but it’s not as strong.

Shake it well, because it will be watery if you don’t. It is not the end of the world, but you have to be careful not to move around too much until it’s fully dry. Though that may just be nail polish in general haha.

However, when it did dry, it seemed to “cure” and it was a solid and bright color. It goes on thin, so you’ll have to do multiple coats. It took me 3 to get opaque coverage for “Classic Cloud“.

Their website states that the polish should last between 5-7 days. It started chipping on days 4-5 for me, however, this was with no base or top coat. I didn’t know this at the time, but it’s recommended to use both their clear base coat and clear top coat to get more of their good-for-you ingredients, increase the duration, protect from the sun, and seal in the color. I’m sure it would have lasted longer if I did those extra two steps!

It’s still going strong on my toes and your pedicure could last up to a month, though it’s not recommended to wear nail polish that long. According to the doctors, it’s a good idea to reapply after 7-10 days.

I’ll admit, I did little research before buying this product haha. I did all my research after. When the 5 days were up and after removing the polish from my fingernails, I could have sworn that my nail beds looked whiter and clearer. However, I was doubting myself because I didn’t even know that was a benefit of this product. But then I go to their website and sure enough, this is a common testimonial from their patients!

I wore this polish off and on for a month before writing this review and though it lasts about as long as any other commercial nail polish, my favorite thing about this product is that my nails looked better after, not worse as they usually do. And though I’m not dealing with any fungus, it feels good to know that it has antifungal qualities as well. Just in case!

What colors should you get?

Convinced that you should give them a try yet? Good news. There are many different colors for you to choose from! I chose white because it’s great for summer, but some of their best-sellers are from the red collection. Sometimes the right red can be tricky to find for your skin tone, but according to their website, here is a brief description of each of their reds:

Remedy Red is an iconic, true ‘Hollywood’ red (red with blue undertones). Rescue Red is a classic ‘fire truck’ red (red with orange undertones). Balance Brick Red is a ‘deep maroon’ red. Revive Ruby Red is a darker red with shimmer, (it’s darker than Dorothy’s iconic ruby slippers).

Those with light to fair skin should look for a red color with blue undertones. Olive skin tones can get away with a dark/deep red. Neutral skin tones can usually get away with red and orange undertones.

Is red too bold for you? Don’t worry. I think this pale pink is just so beautiful and this pink is a close second. You can never go wrong with neutrals from this set…plus buying a set is cheaper too!

Final thought- As good as they say?

That’s a yes for me! Dr.’s remedy products are a healthier alternative to the harsh chemicals that you find in traditional polishes. The results may not be life-changing and it may take a while to feel as if your nails are improving, but you can feel confident that these products are promoting healthy nails. You might even be able to see that your nails are clearer, whiter, and stronger after the first use!

As with most things that are usually better for you, you will be paying more, however, it’s worth it for the best quality ingredients and healthier nails in the long run. This is a better alternative for your young daughters as well, especially the ones that bite their nails, as commercial nail products can leave icky toxins behind and aren’t great if ingested.

This weather is the perfect time to pick up a new polish and show off your fresh pedicure in your summer sandals!
