A friend recently asked me how I was, and I replied, “Great! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” And no, I wasn’t confused about what month it was. While that phrase is usually associated with Christmas, I meant it. Crisp mornings, beautiful foliage, pumpkin scents, and weather perfectly suited for layering without overheating – it’s a fashion lover’s dream. Are you looking for some autumn outfit ideas? Keep scrolling for fresh and stylish fall outfit inspiration to wear this week. Let’s make your outfit dreams a reality!

1. turtleneck + oversized blazer + leggings + riding boots + neck scarf

Is she going horseback riding? Is she an 80-year-old grandma? I like to keep them guessing. I know that a long silk scarf, pearl earrings, and a turtleneck aren’t exactly what “young” people wear (as my sister so lovingly reminds me), but I love the contrast of these elegant pieces with a more casual style. Leggings and an oversized blazer keep the look from feeling too frumpy, while the riding boots add that Ralph Lauren–meets–countryside vibe that’s synonymous with autumn. I added my mini Longchamp bag to lean into the equestrian aesthetic even more.

If you’ve been wondering how to style an oversized neck scarf, try doing a simple knot like I did! I picked up this vintage Chanel scarf at a thrift store in England, and I’ve been waiting for the weather to cool down back home so I could finally wear it. (The anticipation did not disappoint.)

Not into leggings? Add a lightweight trench coat over your outfit. It still gives a classic look while offering more leg coverage.

2. pull-on pants + cardigan + coatigan + clogs + baseball cap

Searching for the perfect outfit for a cozy, casual fall day? Look no further.

Before we get into the outfit, you should know I try to use the word “need” sparingly around here. Maybe you feel the same way – those headlines declaring you need this or calling something a must-have can get a little exhausting, can’t they? Like, what – there’s another thing I need? Most of the time, it’s not a need at all, and the word starts to lose its meaning.

That said, when we use “need” here, we’re not talking about survival or tossing flash-in-the-pan styles at you. We define a need by how often you’ll wear it, how well it fits into your wardrobe, and how long it’ll last. Our answers to that checklist? Very often, almost everything, and hopefully forever.

Of course, what’s a need for me might not be a need for you. That’s where a little personal evaluation comes in. But rest assured – we won’t call something a need unless we truly believe it earns that title.

Okay… let’s land this plane. Where was all of this leading? That’s right – the sweater coat!

And no, I’m not here to sell you one. In fact, the one I’m wearing isn’t even available. I just realized I had a lot to say about the overuse of “need” before getting to why I think the sweater coat actually deserves the label.

A sweater coat/ coatigan/ long cardigan is the piece I reach for constantly this time of year – from movie nights with friends to cozy home days to school drop-offs. It instantly elevates leggings and stretchy waist pants while bringing all the cozy vibes. It’s perfect for travel, too. This is one of those pieces that is truly an all-around wardrobe workhorse that every closet can benefit from.

3. button up + v-neck sweater + mini skirt + oxford shoes

I’ve been finding countless ways to layer with button-ups this season, and although I’ve always loved this capsule wardrobe staple, I’ve been especially impressed with it lately. There are just so many possibilities!

Pairing one under a V-neck sweater lets both pieces shine and creates a layered look that feels intentional and stylish. I love my trusty mini skirt, but this outfit would look just as good with jeans. I’m also a fan of a coordinating moment – it really ties an outfit together – so I love wearing visible socks in the same color as my top to pull the look together.

4. white tee + barn jacket + jeans + loafers

If you’ve been following along with my fall outfit posts, you know I’ve been having way too much fun wearing this barn jacket. One thing about me – I get really overwhelmed when I look in my closet and see too many clothes. Yes, I believe in having fewer, better-quality pieces, but I also believe in keeping clutter (and stress) to a minimum! That’s why I make it a point to curate my closet regularly.

Now, because of my job, I’m hesitant to get rid of too many pieces for good – I might need them for a photo shoot – but I do rotate them out of my main closet and into storage. That way, when I’m getting dressed in the morning, I only see my favorite essentials. I don’t need five barn jackets – that’s just overwhelming. Give me one great one, and I’ll wear it all season long!

Speaking of wearing it, pairing it with jeans and loafers has been a favorite combo of mine. I love the mixture of casual and classier pieces for a casual chic outfit. (You can see a different reiteration here.)

5. white tee + sweater + jeans + bucket tote + trench coat + sneakers

A casual fall outfit? We all need one of those. And while this look might not scream fall, the vibe is definitely there with the trench coat! Whenever you need a quick outfit combo for running errands or weekend shopping, copy this one.

The white tee peeking out from under the (best-ever) cashmere sweater adds a touch of intentional styling. A bucket tote holds all the essentials, and black sunglasses were practically made for your off-duty weekend look. The trench coat ties it all together, giving the outfit that effortless, elevated finish.

6. denim shirt + cable knit sweater + blazer + jeans + boat shoes + tote bag

People have been saying it’s going to be a Ralph Lauren Christmas this year. And while I, too, get a little tired of all the constant labeling – and the pressure to reinvent your style every season – I’m actually on board for this one. Because really, it just means a classic, nostalgic Christmas!

Ralph Lauren–inspired style has been everywhere this fall too, but don’t worry – you’re not behind or off-trend if you haven’t been labeling your style that. If you love classic style with a hint of preppiness, you’re already doing it. ???? Cozy knits, smart layering, and timeless prints are all it takes to channel that effortlessly preppy look this season. Add in a few luxe textures, like suede, and you’re good to go!

7. button-up + polo shirt + jeans + loafers

Jeans are like the chickpeas of the food world – dependable, not fancy, but always worth having on hand because they’re so versatile. They can be roasted, tossed into salads, or even blended into chickpea blondies (Mmm… now I’m hungry). The point is: jeans are one of the best wardrobe staples year-round, but especially in the fall.

Maybe chickpeas aren’t the comparison you’d choose, but like them, jeans go with just about everything – including polo shirts. If you love a preppy autumn aesthetic, you’ll want to recreate this look. Get creative with fall layering by adding a button-up under your polo. Scrunch and tuck the sleeves so the cuffs peek out – chef’s kiss!

And speaking of layering… adding visible socks with loafers is one of my favorite ways to add not just extra warmth, but extra style to an outfit.

Now that you have a fresh set of fall outfit inspiration, it’s time to go recreate them! Whether you copy these looks head-to-toe or mix and match the pieces you love (perhaps with your own version of “chickpeas”), the point is to get creative and style what you already have for dreamy fall outfits this season. Happy styling!
