For most people, the getting dressed process is a lot of hard work and one they often dread when they wake up. Does that sound like you? Guess what, getting dressed up doesn’t have to be stressful! There are great ways to make getting dressed a routine you’ll actually enjoy doing. Wondering how? We have some awesome hacks to help you. From listening to music while getting dressed up to brewing coffee while picking an outfit, by the end of this post, you will look forward to getting dressed! Pinky promise.

1. Play Music in the Background

Playing music in the background as you get dressed is a great way of making the process fun. There is just something about listening to your favorite songs while you pick out your clothes. Not only does it relax you, but it puts an extra pep in your step at the same time! And I don’t know if it’s just me, but if I hear the right song, I always feel like I’m in a music video. That’s the kind of energy you need in the morning – music video energy.

Before the next time you get dressed, I highly recommend creating a “getting dressed” playlist on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, or Pandora. Pick the songs that make you feel inspired and happy. Make sure to keep your playlist updated with new songs too so your playlist never feels stale (we don’t want stale energy when picking out outfits!)

For a personalized touch, you could base your playlist on your clothing style too. For example, if you have a love for Parisian fashion, play energizing songs from French musicians like “Tois et Moi” by Paradis. Who knew French electro could be so fun?

2. Brew Coffee While Picking an Outfit

A good cup of coffee can’t solve all your problems, but it sure can help a lot! Not only will the coffee do a great job of keeping you awake during your morning schedule, but it will also make a big difference in getting dressed. For coffee lovers, there’s just something about the smell and sounds of coffee brewing that brings a smile to your face…

Pick a special coffee mug for getting dressed. It will make the process feel extra special. You could go with a chic mug or something a little quirky depending on your taste. You’ll feel so fancy getting ready – just make sure the coffee doesn’t spill on your clothes!

Another good idea would be to try different coffee brews every time you get dressed. Having something to look forward to is a great way of making yourself look forward to getting dressed up.

Not a coffee drinker? This still applies! Romanticize your day-to-day, even if it means drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass and pretending it’s a mimosa. Or on Fridays, treat yourself and have a breakfast muffin or croissant as you get dressed. Place it on your dressing table for a cute setup you’ll enjoy looking at.

3. Create an Instagram Reel

If you love social media and have a bit of extra time in the mornings, consider creating an Instagram reel of yourself getting dressed. What inspired you to create the outfit? Where did you get the top, bottoms, and jeans? How much did it cost?

GRWM (get ready with me) videos are something that people enjoy watching. Not to mention, documenting this every day can be fun and provide a good way to look back at your style from the past week and month and compare your progression.

Use the different transition features, filters, and other features to spice up your Instagram reel. Add trending sounds or your favorite tracks to make the reel extra entertaining. To take it to the next level, channel your inner fashion influencer and record a voiceover for the reel.

4. Facetime a Friend

Do you have enough time to call your sister, cousin, or best friend on Facetime in the morning? Ask her for some fashion advice if you need a little help getting dressed. You could both show each other what you’ll be wearing for the day. Why not plan to wear similar clothes during the day?

You could also have a regular catch-up conversation with her as you get ready. The most important thing is that you will have someone to hang out with as you get dressed, making this whole process feel more fun!

5. Watch Your Favorite Show

Need a little bit of entertainment as you get dressed? Watch your favorite show as you get ready for the day. This is a good idea if you have a little bit of time to squeeze in to watch a show and if you really don’t like getting dressed and you need your favorite show as motivation.

But who knows? Maybe some of the characters on the show can give you some outfit ideas! For example, if you love Emily in Paris, why not try to emulate the outfits from the show?

6. Listen to an Audiobook

As you get dressed, listen to something uplifting – such as an encouraging podcast. Starting this in the morning will give you a positive mindset for the rest of the day. Alternatively, you can listen to an audiobook.

If you love to read, this is a great way of making getting dressed fun. And if you don’t typically have time to sit down with a book, then an Audible comes in handy. Save the interesting chapters for when you’re getting dressed!

7. Take Before and After Pictures

If making an Instagram reel or outfit video doesn’t interest you, you can simply take before and after pictures. Do side-by-side pictures of you in your pajamas and the other of you looking fresh and stylish.

Keep these photos in a “getting dressed” folder on your phone. Seeing your transformation is encouraging and you’ll look forward to looking back on these photos in the future! While you’re at it, take pictures of all your favorite outfits and create your own archive of go-to’s.

8. Plan Your Outfit on Pinterest

Whether it’s outfits or home decor, who doesn’t love looking for inspiration on Pinterest? Create a board or folder with Pinterest outfits that you can’t wait to recreate. But only pick ones with clothes that you already have, otherwise, you’ll feel frustrated in the morning and it will defeat the purpose!

Do this the night before so that the next day you can look forward to trying out some cool new outfit ideas!

9. Use a Spin Wheel App To Help You Decide What To Wear

Turn getting dressed up into a mini-game show by using a spin wheel. Don’t worry, you don’t have to buy an actual spin wheel – you can use an app instead! The Spin the Wheel app allows you to customize it by putting your own items. Tap the wheel and see what the results will be.

This idea can also be found by using a certain filter on Tiktok. Or, take the idea into your own hands (literally) and just randomly go into your closet with your eyes closed and pick something to base your outfit around. This can be exciting and provide you with new ideas!

10. Create a Special Spot in Your Room to Get Dressed

In order to look forward to getting dressed, your closet or bedroom has to be a place that you find relaxing and beautiful. Even if your current bedroom is as small as a shoebox, find a comfortable place to get dressed. If you don’t have the luxury of a walk-in closet or spare bedroom turned closet, a corner will do just fine!

Decorate it with a cute mirror, a clothing rack, a side table, scented candles, a cute chair, or whatever you have the room for to make it your official dressing space. The key is creating a place that you actually enjoy being in, whether it’s as subtle as hanging up a picture you love. That, coupled with the other tricks on this list, will have you love getting ready in no time. And as a bonus, this spot can also act as a great picture-taking place too!

Getting dressed is an important part of getting ready for the day. And if you’re someone that didn’t find this task to be fun, soon getting dressed will become your favorite part of your daily routine.
