Valentine’s Day is an annual opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms. Whether you spend the day with a significant other, friends or family, you don’t have to be in a relationship to enjoy a holiday centered around caring for another person! The season of love is also a great time to celebrate one of my favorite pastimes – styling the perfect outfit for a special occasion. I love a good theme, and Valentine’s Day outfits can provide the pop of color and fun we’re all craving by the time February rolls around. If you need a little inspiration, I’m here to help with 15 Valentine’s Day outfits to kick-start your planning efforts.

Valentine’s Day Outfits

1. red cardigan + high rise jeans + black belt + leopard flats

If your date night plans call for a casual look, a red cardigan is a great place to start. It’s a nod to the holiday, without being overtly themed. Plus, this is a versatile piece that is easy to style year-round. If you don’t already have it in your closet, it’s a perfect addition to a capsule wardrobe.

Next, try a pair of cheeky high-rise jeans in a classic wash. Valentine’s Day outfits don’t have to be complicated! You can recreate this look all year long for a casual chic look. As for footwear, a leopard pair of flats will add interest by introducing a pattern to your outfit. Complete the ensemble with simple accessories – a black belt with a square buckle and a simple molten pendant necklace are understated, but pull it all together.

2. red sweater and skirt set + gray wrap coat + tennis bracelet + slingback heels

I will always rave about my love for matching sets! They’re an easy way to instantly look polished and put together, with less effort than it would normally take to put together an outfit. Plus, you can always mix and match two matching pieces with others in your wardrobe for a number of different looks. They’re a great addition to your capsule wardrobe, for this reason!

Valentine’s Day often lands on business days, and depending on your schedule you might be rushing from the office to a romantic dinner. This outfit can help you do so seamlessly. A matching set from Gap’s CashSoft collection is work-appropriate but looks just as nice for date night. Add a gray wrap coat to bundle up – it is February after all! I love a wrap-style coat for its flattering effect – it will help to cinch in and highlight the narrowest part of your waist for a slimming look.

Finish the look with classic, elevated accessories – a pair of slingback heels and a tennis bracelet.

3. ruffle blouse + satin skirt + crystal earrings + flats + ivory purse

Pink tops are the perfect choice for a girl’s night. Blouses in rosy hues are fun and feminine, and transition well later on into your spring looks! If you want to go the extra mile for Valentine’s Day this year, make a statement in this ruffled top featuring long sleeves, flattering pleats and a stunning silhouette. Plus, ruffles and frills are part of the latest trends, and are shown in the spring 2025 runway fashion.

Pair it with a satin slip skirt to introduce a new texture to your look. It works well with the top, which also has a lot of movement. However, it helps to balance out your top with a more slim-cut silhouette. Finish the outfit with a simple but elegant shoulder bag, Mary Jane flats, and crystal stud earrings.

4. off-the-shoulder sweater + heart earrings + boot-cut jeans + black booties

If you don’t know the origin of Galentine’s Day, it was created by the comedy sitcom Parks & Recreation. Not only is Parks & Rec one of my comfort watches, but I’ll be forever grateful that it gave us another opportunity to celebrate our girlfriends!

Grab drinks the night before Valentine’s Day with your friends in a chic off-the-shoulder sweater top. It’s the perfect way to stay warm, without sacrificing great style. The off-the-shoulder detail mixes up the classic sweater and jeans formula to result in something a little more interesting.

Style it with boot-cut jeans – a slimmer version of a variation with a wide leg that still pairs perfectly with your favorite ankle boots. Heart drop earrings and a quilted black shoulder bag round out the look.

5. heart cable knit sweater + mini skirt + tall boots + headband

If your favorite Valentine’s Day outfit ideas don’t stray away from timeless, sleek neutrals, you’re in luck. This next look is put together using items that you might already have in your closet, with a small twist.

The Valentine’s Day themes are subtle in this outfit, but still present. Take a closer look at the cable knit sweater – this style from J.Crew incorporates hearts in the pattern! It’s a unique way to pay homage to the holiday without going all in on red and pink attire. Pair it with a black mini skirt, sheer tights, tall boots and a black, padded velvet headband. Finish the outfit with one more Valentine’s Day detail – pearl and gold heart stud earrings.

6. graphic tee + denim shirt + studded bag + Mary Janes + white jeans

If your Valentine’s Day plans include volunteering at school parties with your little sweethearts, this next look was created with you in mind! A graphic tee is the perfect casual piece to stay comfortable but on theme for a busy day helping out at your child or grandchild’s school. On top, add a denim shirt – it’s easy to take off if you get warm, but could provide a necessary layer in February!

Reincorporate the pop of red from your tee back into your look with a pair of red Mary Janes. Then, go outside of your comfort zone with a pair of barrel-leg jeans. I know, you might think I’m crazy… Barrel-leg jeans are hotly contested in style spaces, but after finally giving them a shot myself, I’m in love! There’s a time and place for them, but they really do mix up the classic denim look. And they’re much more flattering than you might think, even on a petite body.

A studded bag adds another element of edgy fun to complete the outfit.

7. pavé heart earrings + bow velvet top + satin pants + shoulder bag + slingback heels

top | pants | shoulder bag | heels | earrings

Here’s another one on our list of Valentine’s Day outfits for my fellow neutral lovers. You can never go wrong with a classic black-and-white look for date night, especially if you’re being treated to (or treating yourself to!) somewhere nice.

Start with a velvet shirt that features bow tie closures down the front. This has been a popular style for the past year or so, and it’s a playful take on a cardigan or button-down. Next, try a pair of pre-crinkled satin pants. This pair from J.Crew is great if you’re on the go or planning to sit down for a long dinner – you won’t have to worry about creases afterward!

Keep the elevated vibes going with slingback heels. The pearl on the front of the shoe adds that special something to make it stand out, while the slingback style helps to make your legs appear longer with a streamlined look. A shoulder bag and pavé heart earrings complete the understated, yet elegant Valentine’s Day outfit.

8. white button-down + cable knit dress + tights + tall boots + watch

Mix business and pleasure with a cable-knit mini dress with a white button-down shirt layered underneath. Red dresses are an effortless choice to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but the button-down underneath adds dimension and intentionality to your look. On the bottom, try sheer tights and a pair of knee-high boots. A tall boot paired with a shorter dress adds modesty and warmth during the colder months!

A shiny leather micro bucket tote and a classic silver watch complement your outfit. If you’re meeting someone for a Valentine’s Day lunch in between meetings, make sure to save this one for inspiration!

9. gray sweater + tulle skirt + white socks + Mary Janes + pendant necklace

skirt | sweater | socks | shoes | necklace

Ready for a really fun Valentine’s Day outfit idea? Let me introduce you to the tulle skirt. Live out your childhood dream of becoming a ballerina, and make a style statement at the same time! This shimmery gray skirt is a statement-maker, and you’ll get compliments wherever you are celebrating.

On top, keep things simple with a complementary gray v-neck sweater. In other words, let your skirt do all the talking! Add a simple pendant necklace for a bit of sparkle on top. As for shoes, keep the ballerina theme going with a pair of Mary Jane ballet flats and white socks.

10. off-the-shoulder sweater + lace-trim skirt + houndstooth coat + heels

skirt | sweater | coat | heels | shoulder bag | earrings

This next look is the perfect balance of sophisticated and sultry. A lace-trim slip skirt is the star of this outfit, in a deep wine red. Pair it with an off-the-shoulder sweater in black, and timeless slingback heels. On top, try a wool-blend, houndstooth coat to add a pattern (and warmth) to your look. A black leather shoulder bag and beautiful, yet understated crystal earrings finish the ensemble.

Wear it to grab cocktails at your favorite jazz club or wine bar to blend in with the aesthetic and stand out with your great style.

11. matching lounge set + red scarf + quilted tote bag + Ugg slippers

sweater top (similar) | pants | slippers | scarf | bag

Planning to stay in on Valentine’s Day this year? No problem! Binge your favorite line-up of rom-coms in this next look. Start with a matching set. You’ll be super comfortable, while also still feeling cute and put together. Then, add a pair of Ugg slippers. You can wear these ones indoors and out, so if you’re running out to pick up your favorite food to eat at home, you’ll be set! Finish the look with two pops of red with a cozy scarf and quilted tote bag.

12. striped shirt + trench coat + jeans + ankle boots + heart earrings

shirt | jeans | trench coat | ankle boots | earrings

If you love classic, Parisian style, this minimalist look for Valentine’s Day might be for you. This look doesn’t stray far from your daily French-inspired uniform.

First, started with a striped mariner tee (part of the French girl’s uniform). Next, add a pair of classic, high-waisted jeans in a medium wash. On top, add a trench coat – another Parisian capsule wardrobe staple. Finish the look with a pair of ankle boots, and stud earrings. The little hearts are the perfect nod to Valentine’s Day, without having to base your whole look on holiday attire.

13. sweater dress + red cape coat + tall boots + hoops + shoulder bag

cape coat | dress | boots | bag | earrings

Your coat is the first impression that people will have of your winter outfits – so if you really want to make a statement, an attention-grabbing coat in bright red is the way to do it! Stand out in the crowd (in a good way) in this double-faced cape coat from Banana Republic. The structured piece is elegant and eye-catching – perfect for a special occasion.

Underneath, keep it simple with a ribbed sweater dress. A little secret if you’re looking for a flattering style – the vertical ribbing helps to draw the eye up and down, making you appear slimmer and taller. Add tall boots (with a kitten heel), huggie hoops and a shoulder bag with a buckle detail to finish the look.

14. Fair Isle sweater + dark-wash jeans + ankle boots + burgundy bag

sweater | jeans | boots | bag | earrings

You don’t have to rush to order anything new to create cute Valentine’s Day outfits. The perfect pieces are probably already waiting for you in your closet! Shopping your own closet is always a great place to start if you’re looking to limit your purchases in the new year.

If you prefer burgundy over bright pops of red or pink, you can still lean into a deeper color palette as a nod to the holiday you’re celebrating. This Fair Isle sweater is ideal for a chilly February day and pairs beautifully with dark-wash jeans. Leather ankle boots, a burgundy bag, and gold huggie hoops finish out the chic, casual style.

15. black cardigan + white tee + jeans + leopard ballet flats + watch + longchamp tote

sweater | tee | jeans | tote bag | ballet flats | watch

If you’re traveling for a little Valentine’s Day getaway, here’s an effortlessly chic look to help you arrive in style. First, start with a pair of classic wash jeans. On top, add a wardrobe staple – the white t-shirt. Layer on a black cardigan. If you’re a fan of actress Dakota Johnson’s street style like I am, you’ll recognize this iconic outfit formula! If you get warm in the car or on the plane, you can always tie the cardigan over your shoulder for a chic look. Plus, you can always swap it out for a red one if you want to wear a bit more color.

Leopard print ballet flats are comfortable, easy to slip on and off, and the perfect neutral pattern to complement this style. Add a watch so you’re not late getting to the airport or your pick-up spot. Finally, round out the look (and pack your essentials) with a Longchamp travel bag.

Lookin’ Fine, Valentine!

Fall in love with great style all over again this winter by putting together cute (and fun) Valentine’s Day outfits. You don’t have to have a fancy night out planned to participate in fun holiday looks – you can dress the part from the comfort of your own home. Whoever you’re celebrating with this year, I hope you feel the love!
