Whether you’re expecting, recently had a new bundle of joy, or just looking to refresh your baby boy’s style, it doesn’t take long to realize that it’s hard to find cute baby boy clothes! There’s no shortage of cute baby girl clothes out there, with racks and racks (and online page after online page) to sort through (no, I’m not bitter). But it’s no surprise that when it comes to the boy’s department, things are pretty much empty. (Is that a tumbleweed?) And if there are clothes, you’ll usually find cheesy sayings or everything sports-related. Why is it all about the sports? Can’t a mama get a neutral design or a nice woodland scene every once in a while?!
As a mom of two boys, I’ve found some of the best places to get stylish clothes. Whether you’re looking for something for special occasions, an adorable coming home outfit, or just stylish clothes for day-to-day living, here you’ll find the best baby boy clothes that are cute and not cheesy!
First, here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for baby boy clothes:
- Mix high & low
Babies grow so fast and you don’t even have to be a mom yet to know that they are messy. Instead of spending all your money on the highest quality clothes, it can be a good idea to mix high and low. I like to get the majority of my boy’s clothes at thrift stores, H&M, or Old Navy and then I’ll pay full price for a few “statement” items.
- Basics first
Though a full button down henley romper is cute, it can be really annoying to change diapers and get your baby dressed when that’s all he has. Focus on easy to wear basics first and supplement with cuter items. Though you might throw an adorable cardigan and pair of booties on before you leave the house, most of the time, your baby is probably going to be wearing a onesie and/or stretchy pants.
- Don’t forget function
Who wants to deal with a million snaps in the middle of the night? When it comes to newborn baby clothes, especially in the early days where you feel like you’re constantly changing diapers (because you are), look for zippers that move two ways, gowns, and minimal snaps.
- You never need as much as you think
Even as a second time mom this one still gets me sometimes. Every mom wants their kids to look cute and sometimes this comes across as overbuying. But unless your baby has an active social life (ha), they’re simply not going to need as many clothes as you think. Then you factor in growth spurts and you’ll realize there’s just not enough time to wear every cute outfit. Focus on having enough to last till your normal laundry day (and a few extras) just to make life a little easier without going overboard.
- Get limited newborn clothes
Most kids don’t wear newborn sizes for long and some may even skip this stage entirely. Get a few outfits, but don’t spend all your money on newborn clothes. Focus on 0-3 instead and if you’re buying season specific, make sure you take that into consideration as well!
Best Places To Get Cute Baby Boy Clothes
Old Navy seems to get the memo that we mamas want more than animals and sports-themed clothing. If you want your little boy to dress like a “little man”, this is the place for you. With joggers, denim jackets, henley one-pieces, and even trendy shackets (shirt jacket), you’re sure to find something stylish and not cheesy here!
Old Navy might not have the softest pajamas or be made out of bamboo fiber, but their clothes are a good option when you’re on a budget. After all, babies grow so fast and between all their bodily functions, clothes can get ruined fast. Old Navy frequently runs sales as well, making their stylish clothing even more affordable.
If you’re looking for organic baby clothes, Burt’s Bees is the place for you. You might be wondering, what makes clothes organic? At least I was! This means that their clothes have not been treated with any chemicals or pesticides, so this place is a great option if toxic-free living is important to you.
Ranging from cute woodland designs to neutral colors, short sleeve rompers to onesies sets, here you’ll find stylish boy clothing made out of 100 percent cotton and premium organic materials. You can find them on Amazon, Target, or their own website.
H&M is one of my favorite brands for baby boy clothes! If you like neutral colors and subdued styles, then this is one of the best places for you and you’ll frequently find my boys wearing something from here. Zara has a similar aesthetic to this place as well, but H&M’s site is easier to navigate (in my opinion).
Are you looking for cute foxes or classic stripes? Or maybe you’re looking for stylish boy cardigans and sweaters. Whatever clothes are on your wish list, you’re sure to find some of the best baby boy clothes here. Keep in mind that sometimes the quality can be a miss, however. We’ve had clothes get holes within a few months but at the same time, we’ve had pieces last for years.
Target has not only developed their own clothing lines, but they’ve partnered up with different brands over the years, helping to make stylish baby boy clothes a reality! You can find some great options in the Cat & Jack, Cloud Island, Q by Quincy Mae, and Honest Baby line.
Whether you’re looking for geometric prints, stylish sets, or adorable animals, you’ll find something you love in one of these clothing lines without hurting your clothing budget.
Hanna Andersson is a well-known brand when it comes to matching family pajama sets and high-quality baby clothing. Though their clothes aren’t cheap, they’re packed full of personality and unique designs. Not only that but their pieces are crafted with organic cotton and extra soft materials that your baby will love.
Shop here if you’re looking for cozy soft pajamas, adorable jackets, or bold, Scandinavian-inspired prints!
Though Baby Gap does have some Disney items and slogans, you can’t miss some of their other baby boy clothing items such as their cardigans, denim jackets, and fuzzy booties. This is the place to shop if you like your baby boy to have a stylish menswear look…just shrunk down to size!
Baby Gap frequently has sales, but if you’re looking to save even more, shop here just for the iconic items and supplement with basics at more budget-friendly places.
Just like its main brand, Carters, this brand tends to be a bit more “typical” when it comes to baby clothes with the jokey sayings, sporty tops, and neon colors, but they do have some cute designs for your little guy. Plus, they have nice low prices and frequent new arrivals!
Here you can get your hands on basic bodysuits and pant sets for a very low price. Save by getting your neutral basics here, then add in the stylish pieces from H&M or Baby Gap!
If you have a baby shower coming up, feel free to casually hint that you like shopping at one of these places on this list for cute newborn baby boy clothes. 😉
Or if you’re simply looking for a wardrobe refresh for your little guy, then happy shopping!
