When it comes to dressing while pregnant, I know we all desire those cute maternity outfit ideas. However, it’s easier said than done at times. It seems that the further along you get in your pregnancy, the fewer clothing options you have. Not only is your belly getting quite large, but you’re feeling less inspired and just so over it. No? Just me? Either way, having a stylish outfit can drastically improve your mood. Follow this outfit formula for a cute maternity outfit idea to achieve that stylish outfit!

It might sound like a lot of items, but it’s really not! And yet, they all work in conjunction to put together a stylish outfit. I’ll break down each piece in this outfit formula.

Fitted shirt
Third-trimester bumps like mine (or second, depending on your bump size), can’t really get away with wearing their normal loose tees anymore. Trust me, I tried! Fitted shirts, when paired with outerwear, tend to look the best at this stage.

Oversized denim/chambray shirt
We started with a fitted shirt because we’re going to do layering for this look! Being pregnant already adds a lot of volume to your look (and well, body), so starting with a tight foundation is better for adding on those extra layers. We layer with a chambray shirt because not only does it look stylish, but the denim adds a pop of (neutral) color while also breaking up the look.

To create a visually pleasing look, ideally, your oversized denim shirt hits below your fitted shirt (even though mine didn’t) without coming close to the bottom of your trench coat.
No need to find a maternity denim shirt! Shop as you would normally and size up one, or look for an oversized style.

Trench coat
This layer is what takes your outfit from simple to simply stylish! A trench coat is a classic piece and the length is great for adding interest to your look. If a trench coat is not for you, try to find something else that still hits around the knee.

Cropped flared jeans
Why cropped flared jeans and not skinny jeans? Because cropped flared jeans just add that extra something and you don’t typically see pregnant women wearing them. It’s a great way to stand out as a stylish mama!

Loafers
Loafers add a smart and chic look to your outfit. Plus, they make a great pairing with the cropped flared jeans! If loafers aren’t your thing, then switch them out for mule slides. Still just as chic and stylish.

Hobo bag
Moms have to carry around a lot of stuff. Thankfully, there are cute bags that allow you to do just that! I recommend a leather (or leather looking) bag for one that is stylish yet cute.

Gold hoops
Simple and cute. Gold hoops add just the right amount of style.
