When you’re first dipping your toes into the world of dressing stylishly and chic, it may seem a bit overwhelming. With all of the coming-and-going trends, different silhouettes, and colors, how are you supposed to keep up? Well, the good news is that it’s way more simple than you might think. In fact, most stylish women employ a few smart styling tricks in order to give their outfits a fresh new twist. Today, I’ll be showing some of the best and easiest tips + tricks on how to look stylish and take your personal style up a notch (with little effort!).
How to Look Stylish With Hardly Any Effort
1. Drape your coat
This trick is one that’s constantly seen at fashion week and is a great way to achieve that effortlessly sophisticated look. Whether it’s a leather jacket or a bold statement coat, draping your coat over your shoulders is a simple way to amp up your style and stand out from the crowd.

2. Throw on some statement jewelry
You’ve probably heard that a little bit of bling goes a long way, and this couldn’t be truer! One very easy way to add interest to an otherwise plain outfit is with a great statement jewelry piece. This can be a pair of chandelier earrings, a striking cuff bracelet, or a bold statement necklace. Just make sure to stick to one statement piece and keep the rest of your jewelry minimal to avoid coming off tacky.
3. let your light belt shine
Usually, you never see your belts, but for this style tip, it’s a great time to let your belt see the light of day! It adds interest to your outfit and is a fun way to shake it up. Belt a blazer, highlight your waist in a dress, or half tuck in your shirt if you have a fancy belt buckle! It doesn’t have to be a plain leather belt either…look for ones with some pizzaz!
4. add accessories to your accessories
So we all know that the right accessories are great for amping up a simple outfit, but what about accessorizing your accessories? By adding accessories to your accessories, such as adding a silk scarf on your handbag, you are just adding style on style…and it’s really not that hard! Just think of the accessories that you have and then think of where you could put them…like a brooch on your belt or a scarf tied on your headband. This will give you a look that’s all your own – one of the hallmarks of having great style is individuality.
5. big black sunglasses
If some of these other tricks are still a bit outside of your comfort zone, then simply adding a pair of oversized black sunglasses is perfect for you. Sunglasses are an excellent way to add a look of mystery to a casual outfit, formalwear, or anything in between. This is one of those classic styles that will never go out of fashion.
6. half-tuck your tops
One important thing to remember when it comes to getting dressed is that it’s not about what you have so much as it’s about how you wear it. A half tuck (or French tuck) is one of the most simple tricks to elevate a t-shirt or blouse and it also has the added bonus of flattering every body type.
7. jacket as a top
One great thing about fashion is that, although there are “rules”, those rules can always be broken. Black and brown together? White after labor day? Wearing a denim jacket as a top? These are all great looks when done right! A blazer is another jacket that’s great for a more classic look.

8. wear accessories in new ways
It’s time to get creative! Wear a scarf around your ankle or sunglasses on your belt, or maybe a purse around your waist (belt bags, anyone?)…have fun with it! This is a great way to make an old thing new again.
9. socks with sneakers
Who said comfortable shoes couldn’t be made stylish? Visible socks used to be a big no-no, but now I think it’s super fun and different. Knee-high socks will instantly make your outfit look preppy, youthful, and fun. It may seem a little daring, but don’t be afraid to give it a try!
10. wear your top backwards
Nope, this wasn’t an accident. It’s different, unique, and when done right, extra stylish! There are lots of high-end tops out there with open backs (like this look-a-like), and now you can get the look for less! See 10 other ways to wear this top!
11. Patterned tights
Another quick way to elevate your style and create a chic look is with a pair of patterned tights. Little touches like these are great for making outfits that look expensive, no pricey designer clothes needed! Wear your tights with a skirt or dress and a pair of boots for the perfect fall and winter look.
12. knot an oversized tee
Oversized can be chic, but it definitely looks extra stylish when you knot it playfully instead of having it bunch up awkwardly! If your top is too long to get a proper half-tuck, this trick is the best way to get that same effect.
There you have it! These are some of the easiest ways to create a unique, stylish look with very little effort. Many of these easy tips can work for just about any occasion and will even breathe new life into what you already have in your closet without the need for any new clothes! When trying out a new style, as always, try to stick with neutral colors that will make mixing and matching easier.
