A monochromatic outfit is a look made up of one color or shades of the same color. But don’t worry, it’s anything but boring when done right! This type of outfit challenges you to get creative instead of wearing the same fall back look every day. Not only that, but it allows you to show off your favorite color as well ?

How to Rock a Monochromatic Outfit

Good news, a monochromatic outfit can be done for any season! It all just depends on what color you use. A burgundy (like this one) is luxe for winter or fall. A whole winter white outfit would look chic too this time of year. In the spring you can do pastels and in the summer I think something bold like orange would look cool…you get the picture! The key to rocking this look is to mix different textures and fabrics to keep it from looking blah and boring. In this look, I have faux fur, satin, and your basic cotton. It’s a lot, but they all work really well together.

I like the sleekness of one color in a look, but it’s totally doable with different shades as well.

Love color too much to just stick to one? You can add some personality to your monochromatic outfit by adding in a statement piece…like this scarf! I usually don’t wear a lot of colors and it’s not that I don’t know how to mix them, it’s just that sometimes I don’t want to ? But I like the punch this scarf added to this look.

If you love patterns, feel free to get a little adventurous and mix those in there too.

If the thought of putting together an outfit from scratch seems too daunting right now, dip your toes in the water by getting a suit set in a bold color! Not only are they trending, but it takes all the guesswork of color matching out of it for you.

Because you can do any color, there’s a look for everyone! The overall result is sleek and elevated. If you were to rock a monochromatic outfit, what color would you choose?

  1. That all-burgundy look has me swooning! I love the blue as well. Gosh, you always do such an amazing job styling your outfits. I’m not sure I could ever be as chic as you!

    1. Hehe! I like the comparison, but I don’t know enough about wine to make a good pick. Hmm..whatever is sweeter I guess! 😉

  2. I so love monochromatic outfits! They are really my go-to, usually in varying shades of one color. Blues, teals, grays, and pinks are the usual colors for me.

Sometimes a broad range of one color can work together, such as a dusty pink with burgundy. They are both muted reds and can play well together.

Who could ever think monochrome is boring? There is so much else to vary: texture, cut/volume, structure, drape, the list goes on and the excitement keeps coming!
