Classic, versatile, and reminiscent of Parisian fashion… what’s not to love about the trench coat? Spring and fall are the best times to wear this piece, and it feels especially good to ditch heavier outerwear in favor of something lighter. From the classic long khaki styles to knee-length, cropped, and even printed options, the possibilities are endless. For ideas on how to style your trench coat this spring, here are five ways I’m wearing mine!

1. trench coat + polo sweater + jeans + boat shoes

Jeans make a great base for spring trench coat outfits (as you’ll see in this post), mainly because you can easily customize the look to suit your personal style. If you lean toward a preppy aesthetic, this outfit is for you. Pair a striped polo sweater with your jeans for a simple starting point. Coordinating boat shoes and a tote bag adds a polished, put-together feel. And of course, complete the outfit with a trench coat!

2. trench coat + striped shirt + black pants + sneakers + baseball cap + tote bag

I love this outfit combo for a busy day out and about. Starting with these comfy black pants – I’ve mentioned them often in my personal outfit posts! They give the illusion of tailored work pants, but they’re unbelievably soft and comfortable. A striped top adds interest, especially when paired with another print, like leopard print sneakers. A longchamp tote bag and Ralph Lauren baseball cap add a stylish, preppy touch, and the trench coat is the finishing touch!

3. trench coat + button up + sweater + baseball cap + jeans + ballet flats

Usually, I gravitate toward slim or straight jeans, but every now and then, I like to switch things up – like with these baggy jeans. I love the juxtaposition of casual, chic, and preppy in this outfit. The layered sweater, button-up, and baseball cap add a preppy touch, while the jeans keep things casual, and the ballet flats and trench coat bring in a chic element. Can’t decide if you want to be casual, chic, or preppy? Copy this look, and you don’t have to!

(Oh, and it looks just as good without the trench coat, too.)

4. leopard print trench coat + white button up + tulle skirt + slingback heels

Not all trench coats have to be beige! They’re classic and a must-have, but if you want to shake things up a bit, don’t overlook printed styles – like this leopard-print stunner. Here’s proof that your trench coat outfit can be dressy and anything but basic. For a birthday dinner, I paired this statement piece with a white button-up, a black tulle skirt, and slingback heels. Don’t have a tulle skirt? Swap it for a black slip skirt for a trench coat outfit that’s perfect for a night out on the town.

5. trench coat + jeans + white button up + ballet flats

Creating a statement trench coat outfit is fun (and recommended), but the classics never fail either. One of my favorite ways to wear my trench coat for spring is with pieces from my capsule wardrobe. Straight jeans, a white button-up, and ballet flats – you can’t go wrong with these! Style them together for a classic look that will never go out of style. Perfect for lunch dates, meetings, and everything in between.
