Spring is just around the corner, and I can’t wait for my outfits to reflect the change in weather! Though it takes a bit longer for spring to reach the Midwest, we traveled to South Carolina for spring break and got to enjoy not only the beauty the South has to offer, but the weather too. I finally had the chance to break out shorts and sleeveless tops, so of course I had to document it and share it in a post (did it really happen if I don’t?). And of course, the hope is that maybe you’ll get some outfit ideas too. Scroll on for what I’ve been wearing lately – springish edition.
1. black pants + white tee + sweater + sneakers
Before we get to the South Carolina looks – this is a “springish” look for the Midwest (no heavy coat!). I love striking the balance between casual and chic, and this outfit is a great way to do just that.
On the bottom, a pair of tailored black pants (that are more comfortable than they look) adds polish, while sneakers bring ease and that cool factor. On top, layer a white tee under your cashmere sweater. Not only does it protect the fibers of your sweater, but it also adds interest – and a little extra warmth. A cashmere sweater instantly elevates the look, making you feel effortlessly put together.
2. black pants + sneakers + white tee + oversized denim shacket + baseball cap
Do you see the trees blooming? Ah, it’s perfect. For a spring walk around the historic neighborhood (for house ideas, of course), start with a stretchy pair of black pants. I love this pair – they look elevated but feel effortless. Plus, they’re so comfortable! Pair them with sneakers – the obvious choice for a walk.
Moving up, a white tee is the perfect staple for a spring day. I borrowed my husband’s denim shacket for an outer layer, but you can, of course, choose something more fitted. Finally, finish off the look with a baseball cap.
3. white jeans + cable-knit sweater + boat shoes + boat tote
There’s just something about a cable-knit sweater that screams nautical spring. I know there’s history behind the cable-knit and fishermen, but I digress…
For a spring look, white jeans make the perfect pairing with a cable knit sweater. You can lean into the nautical vibe with boat shoes, too. Complete the outfit with a boat tote – this L.L. Bean one is iconic, and you can even personalize it!

4. striped shirt + jeans (or shorts) + ballet flats + boat tote
Speaking of a nautical spring, is there anything better than stripes? This mariner shirt is a favorite! It has a boxy fit, but I like that it allows me to tuck it in and roll the sleeves. It gives it a cool, effortless look. For the Parisian chic spring touch, pair your stripe shirt with jeans and ballet flats. Too hot for jeans?
Pair it with shorts!

5. navy cable-knit sweater + white shorts + boat shoes
Another classic piece for your Americana spring outfits? A Tommy Hilfiger cable-knit sweater. I love the deep navy. It feels fresher than black for the new season, but still grounded. Plus, it pairs great with white and brown.
Speaking of, a lightweight pair of white shorts is a great spring/summer staple to have. Easy to throw on, and matches virtually anything! Boat shoes are a great option if you like preppy style, and a Longchamp cosmetic mini (converted with a strap) is a great hands-off bag to have for weekend errands or shopping.
6. gingham dress + ballet flats (or boat shoes)
Gingham was just made for spring, no? Not only do I love this cute and nostalgic print for this season, but I love a one-and-done dress too! So a gingham dress? *Chef’s kiss*
Simple accessories like sunglasses and jewelry are all you need. You can style this dress in different ways, whether you go chic or casual.
There’s that boat tote and boat shoes again!
7. black pants + sneakers + white tee + blazer + baseball cap
For a travel day back home, I wore the same formula from the way there, except this time I threw on a blazer. It adds instant polish to your casual pieces – like your sneakers and baseball cap – instantly making you feel more put together for what can be dreary travel days. Though a blazer may not sound like a travel piece, choose a comfy one and you’ll be surprised at how good you feel – whether you travel by car or airplane!
