Galena, Illinois is not far from where I live but yet, I feel transported whenever I’m there. It just explodes of charm and history and every corner of this small town is beautiful. If you’re in the midwest and have been looking for new places to visit (or you just don’t want to travel far due to the pandemic), Galena should be on your list. Here are the top 3 reasons why!
Top 3 Reasons Why You Should Visit Galena, Illinois

1. The Charm
Of course, I’ve got to talk about the charm of Galena first. It’s a photographer’s dream or really a dream for anyone that’s captivated by things such as ivy on brick buildings, old shutters, and cobblestone paths. The architecture is beautiful and it’s easy to get lost in all the details and the authenticity of the town.
2. Main Street
Main street is probably the *main* reason (hehe) why people visit Galena. As you’ll see in the photo below, it’s a long street full of shops, restaurants, bars, boutiques, and lots more. Some shops are vintage. Some are modern. And if you’re someone that loves to snack, you could walk away with chocolate dips, hot sauce, popcorn, and yummy ice cream. And that’s just barely scratching the surface. There’s really something for everyone!

3. History
If you love learning about the history behind old towns then you’ll love Galena, seeing as Galena is home of Ulysses S. Grant and other war generals. You can check out more of the history here.
Of course, there are more than 3 reasons why you should visit Galena, Illinois. Even though Galena is small (about 3,000 people), it has resorts, parks, wineries, outdoor fun, and more. It’s family-friendly, as well as a great place for a romantic getaway, bridal shower, bachelorette party, and/or family reunion.
