I love a new year because it’s the perfect time to hit the refresh and restart button on life and reflect on what happened and what didn’t, what worked, and what you would do differently next time. And if you’re all about the goals and resolutions, then it’s time to write a list of what new things you need and would like to do. In life or in your wardrobe.
How to Refresh Your Wardrobe for the New Year
First things first. Are you unsure about your style and who you even want to be this year? Then you need to check out how to find your personal style first!
If you have a good grip on what you want to portray this year, then you need to do an edit and get rid of all of these things.
Now we’re going to refresh your wardrobe by adding and refreshing these key pieces, along with extra things you can add! Related: What to Do When You’re Bored With Your Closet
1. Stock up on basic tees
Probably thee most versatile item in your wardrobe. Do you have enough? Or any? I recommend starting with your basic colors such as white, gray, and black, but don’t be afraid to get a little color such as burgundy. I wore that color pretty much all of fall! Related: How to Elevate a Simple Tee and Jeans Outfit
*shoes…tees…don’t forget to whiten those whites! If they’re beyond repair, toss them out and start over*
2. How’s your denim doing?
Still in good condition? If it’s faded, is it faded in the “cool” way or the “your jeans look old way”? I just tossed a pair where the blue faded into this odd green color. Yeah, not cute. I replaced them with a couple of new Levi pairs!
On the topic of denim, don’t put yourself in a box of thinking skinny jeans are the only way to go! Have you experimented and tried out different styles? There’s high waist, straight leg, cropped, flared, frayed, etc. So many options. Make 2019 the year of trying out something new! Related: 5 Denim Styles to Try That Aren’t Skinny Jeans
3. Do you have a neutral pair of ankle boots?
I’m so bummed because my favorite ankle boots just finally gave out, and they’re so versatile I’ve found myself already mourning their loss. If you don’t have a pair (or they broke like mine) then it’s time to get some! I recommend investing in a black shiny, smooth material. Anything with suede or fur could potentially date it for fall or winter. Anything not a neutral wouldn’t give you the versatility you need!
4. Say bye bye cheap looking jewelry…
I know that I’m guilty of buying cheap jewelry only to have it look tarnished and old after a couple of wears. Say adios to those pieces and spend a little more on something you’ll get more wear out of. I don’t think you necessarily have to invest in the statement pieces, instead, I’d recommend spending more on the classic pieces such as pearl earrings, or anything dainty and gold.
5. Get that statement item!
A great way to refresh your wardrobe is by adding in a statement piece that takes the outfit to the next level. The key is finding a piece you can get more than one use out of, such as a colorful scarf or a blingy necklace. A sparkly bridesmaid-esque dress may make a statement but you’re going to have a hard time wearing that more than once… Related: The Rest of Your Outfit Can Be Boring If You Have This…
6. Gather enough outerwear options
If you only have one outerwear option you are missing out! Each serves a purpose and finish off a look in a different way whether it’s a denim jacket, blazer, moto jacket, bomber, or trench coat. All of those would look great with your basic tees, great denim, and ankle boots that you are going to get too!
7. Add some color
If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe, adding some color is an easy way to do that. Adding color doesn’t automatically have to mean neons, especially if color isn’t totally your thing. I’m more a neutrals gal, but enjoy adding some color occasionally with reds and pinks.
With these tips to refresh your wardrobe, are you feeling ready for a fabulous new year now??
Before you go, I just want to sincerely thank you all for being such amazing readers and all the support you’ve given me! From tech issues to magazine features, to having a baby, it’s truly been a roller coaster year. I strive to give helpful content and I’m thankful for you sticking along. I’ve been thankful for the growth and opportunities God has brought my way in 2018 and I’m even more excited to see what 2019 brings!
Feel free to exit now or keep scrolling to read my 2019 plans 😉
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
In 2019 you can expect to see the same type of fashion content (as well as continually getting better) with outfit ideas, style hacks, looking chic, mixing high and low, and maximizing your wardrobe, just to name a few. Okay, to name a lot 😉
I don’t have plans to add many family lifestyle posts, so please let me know if it’s something you’d like to see!
However, I do plan on adding more travel content and to inspire you to make your own exciting memories! There are some things in the works for 2019 that I’m really excited about!
GOALS/PLANS
My “instahusband” and I have plans to update camera gear and continually improve our photography and have this be a place where people can be inspired by our images.
Though my expectations with page views and all that got blown away in 2018, my 2019 goals don’t really revolve around numbers or clicks (you business people are probably shaking your heads haha). I truly enjoy having this blog (well sometimes I want to give up if I’m being honest) and I was blogging even when it was probably just my husband reading it haha. Blogging is not easy and “build it and they will come” doesn’t really apply to the vast internet, but I’m not a numbers gal so I’m going to put my focus on just getting better and better and make my goals on things I can get excited about!
WHAT I’D LIKE TO IMPROVE
I would like to improve in doing a better job of planning stuff out so I’m not scrambling at the last minute. For example, I’m writing this post the night before it’s supposed to go out haha. It’s 7 pm, kid is down for the night, we haven’t had supper yet, and I’m brewing a cup of coffee because I’m realizing that this is going to be a loooong night with still a post to write and photos to take.
I’m actually a really organized person so it’s surprising this is my struggle. Must be motherhood. Really throws you for a loop haha.
I’ve also gotten a little lazy with my Instagram so I hope to improve my consistency in posting, engaging, and “keeping a theme”.
There you have it. Kudos to you for reading this long (and maybe rambling at times) post! Curious to know what your plans for 2019 are! Let me know in the comments.
I wish you all a fabulous new year of growth (though not fun, necessary), the satisfaction of sticking to and accomplishing your goals, the feeling of crushing it at life and work, relief for finally finishing that huge project, contentment in your life no matter your circumstances, and an everlasting love that only God can give.

It’s so funny you mention stocking up your basic tees because I just did so. I replaced two that were worn out and added a new color I’ve been eyeing. Now I need to do a little closet purge to get rid of any worn out pieces.
Love the basic tees idea!! Such a good one and I def need to buy some more after reading this.
